Koe no Katachi dub is absolutely amazing!!! I'm not gonna try and sell the movie, its had a lot of hype around it for the past year or so. The trailer is very good and there's a lot of good reviews and threads relating to it if you're curious.
The dubbed version of this was released on Monday and I really wanted to draw attention to some things as this is easily the best dub I've seen.
The localisation is on point. Conversations flow naturally and sound like they were originally written in English almost the whole way through.
The voice acting is excellent throughout. I had worried slightly after hearing only clip 3 of the dub before getting it but the voice acting top tier from every character imo.
The phrasing is truly excellent. Not only does it never feel jarring or unnatural, it actually helps to humanise some of the characters who felt a bit off to me in the subs and lends a bit of significance to some bits.
The weighting is the biggest difference for me. Many of the parts in sub felt melodramatic or forced at times and despite being stuck to the same script, the dub feels massively more natural to me.
TL;DR If you get a chance to watch this in dub do. Dubs have been getting really good recently but this is the first anime where I will firmly argue for dub over sub.
I enjoy dubs and will usually watch those once I buy the show. For Koe no Katachi, I was blown away by the acting in the sub. Thought that was going to be the only way I watched it from then on.
However, after hearing some of the clips for the dub, I'm pretty excited to see it. Oddly enough I wasn't a huge fan of the dub from the one clip I tried clip 3 but it's as good as the sub for me.
Might not have been clear from the paragraph there but my preference for the dub stems more from word choice and tonality in some parts which I put down more to direction than voice acting.
The voices always felt like they were nailing the emotions in the sub. The other time I've had something like this was after buying the madoka magica series.
The fansubs are pretty decent there but the official sub adds a lot of wordplay and subtleties that are missed on the fansubs in spite of them having the same broad meaning.
Just got my UI BD the other day but haven't watched it yet. Definitely excited to check the dub out this weekend. It just released in U. It likely won't be on Crunchyroll at all since they rarely get the licenses to films, but if it does it'll be a few months from now at the earliest.
